The winner and runners up for one of fashion’s most coveted honors, the Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund awards, were announced Tuesday evening at a luxe NYC dinner featuring a keynote speech from Burberry creative head, Christopher Bailey. Emerging designer and last nights winner is Greg Chait of The Elder Statesman. Founded in Los Angeles in 2007, The Elder Statesman makes lovely knits that we suspect are perfect for L.A. winters, but better for New York layering. Greg Chait, the Venice Beach designer of luxe cashmere brand The Elder Statesman, and Roman Alonso of Commune (the interiors visionary behind the Ace Hotel, Opening Ceremony, Heath Ceramics) met a year ago. The result: a forthcoming collection of L.A.-produced merino cashmere blankets and pillows. Says Alonso, “The Elder Statesman embodies the spirit we love about this place we call home. The project was a natural one.” Peep a few items from the brand.
