The Joy Formidable – Austere

I thought it only fitting to pay homage to a grungy-rock (and dare I say it, pop-core) trio from my small home town in North Wales, The Joy Formidable with this song choice.
‘Austere’, from the band’s twelve-track first album The Big Roar, is one of many that sticks out as a quirky success. For those that love a song from melody, the song boasts a base-line that makes even those not-so-keen on the genre sit up and listen, and for the meticulous lyricists out there that take in the intonation of every syllable of every word, the haunting sounds of the female vocalist reciting lines of musical poetry do great justice to the band’s aesthetic.
This year, The Joy Formidable have been trying to conquer North America, touring the States and Canada earlier on in 2012. The festival circuit both sides of the Atlantic has also often seen the band among headliners, building them an ever-growing fan base and an eclectic following. I’m a huge advocate for the band, and look forward to the release of a second album. For now, however, I am quite satisfied with playing The Big Roar, over and over; an album definitely worth downloading.
