Coming off a stratospheric run of singles from their acclaimed 2011 album, Skying, The Horrors are issuing reworked versions of those songs as a limited edition box set, suitably titled Higher. Launched digitally this Monday, December 3rd, the set will see an official release on XL Recordings on March 26, 2013, and include four 12″ vinyls, two CDs and a music video DVD.
Horrors’ synthesist Tom Cowan remarked to NME that Higher‘s collaborative conception started last year on a desert drive: “We thought we’d get people involved to do remixed B-sides, but it kind of ballooned.” You might say that: the band coralled enviable talent to reimagine their latest release, with legendary remixer Andrew Weatherhall, woozy psychedelic poppers Peaking Lights, drone provocateur Blanck Mass, and Cabaret Voltaire founding member Chris Watson providing alternately dreamy and unsettling takes on the shoegaze-heavy source material.
