‘Take My Picture’ by Dasha Zhukova for Garage Magazine (Video)

“Take my Picture” is a really important ten minutes for anyone in fashion to watch, but also for those fascinated with the street style star and the street style photographer. Fashion journalist Tim Blanks starts by taking us through a sort of chronological history of the changes in fashion, dealing with topics of glamour, fame, the supermodel, and finally the street style frenzy, along with commentary from other fashion insiders who have witnessed mass changes in the industry. He explains how fashion as we know it now was not always so, not always the hysterical frenzy that we have come to associate with the world of fashion. Photographers and videographers have never had more people or more content to shoot. But just because there is more, does that mean it is better? Has it gotten watered down or worse? It is debatable when people are ‘peacocking’ just to get photographed, and when celebrities are turning street style photographers into celebrities by posing for them. It is a fame system that feeds into each other two ways, but there is still only a small handful of ‘photographers’ and ‘bloggers’ who comment and capture fashion and do it well. Still, how can we  deny what is the quickest growing offshoot in fashion? The blog. Good or bad, it’s here and showing signs of longevity. A sort of world that functions on a fame system that, like reality television, is creating monsters. Really stylish monsters.
