NotEqual Brings Unisex Brooklyn Couture to Kickstarter

NotEqual is a new design project between project runway alum Fabio Costa and design partner/roommate/look-alike Rebecca Diele whose intent is to encourage authentic expression through nonconformist fashion. In their earlier work, the two have brazenly explored crevices of the experimental design spectrum, with pieces ranging from a floor length reversible jersey dress (for either men or women, of course) to a very Grecian-inspired flowered crown. Their aesthetic channels a very J.W. Anderson meets Yohji Yamaoto in Bedstuy vibe.

Now, Costa and Diele have taken to Kickstarter to raise funds for the production of their upcoming Spring/Summer 2014 collection, based on a modern application of the Golden Ratio – the Pythagorean mathematical theorem on which much of pre-20th Century art (da Vinci) and design (Parthenon) was based. In the words of NotEqual, the duo intends on applying “the same ratio to create genderless proportions that are pleasing, harmonious, and appealing.  [They’re] striving for the same organic perfection that is seen in nature, which finds its fullest realization in the human form.”

With a hopeful goal of $20,000, the best part of the campaign is the offered one-of-a-kind rewards, which range on the lower end to hand-braided leather bracelets, and on the higher end to a customized outfit inspired by the funder.  For more information on how to help, watch their Kickstarter video here.
