Lucian Matis Spring/Summer 2012
On a super rainy night, a soaking wet CONTRA crew headed over to 99 Sudbury for the off-site Lucian Matis SS 2012 presentation. By some miscommunication, our writer, Melissa Fox, was mistakenly put down, with first name ‘Megan’. We were asked if Megan Fox was rolling with us. Unfortunately no, but Melissa has great hair too.
As the storm raged on, a wonderful, confusing, rainbow of sheer fabrics, hand-detailing, and appliqued rosettes came whirling round the room. It was fantastic, but RTW? More like Who Can Wear this in real life? Vegas showgirls, Lady Gaga and The Muppets were easy comparisons.
Though some pieces were definitely impressive for their handi-work, the silhouettes were for the most part, unflattering. The outfits took over the wearer. It was the only thing you saw. A woman’s body was not meant to carry off a tutu body-suit. By the looks of the long sheer gowns, can we explain why we’ve forgotten to wear pants? Over all, this collection slighted the wise ‘less is more’ mantra, to the point where the detailing, was distracting, obtrusive even.
The music was awesome, the show was on time, and Lucian was beaming, as he walked the entire runway, waving to a cheering audience of family and friends. We think maybe he should test out menswear. He’s got super style!
We enjoyed the pseudo-champagne and the swag was great – if you have blond hair…
s/o to Candice and Alison!
