Listen: Katy B feat. Geeneus & Jessie Ware: ‘Aaliyah’

Katy B – loved first as a muse to a premiere group of UK dubstep and bass producers (Skream, Benga, Geeneus, Zinc, et al), then as the premiere go-to songstress of that microcosm – is capitalizing upon both her dynamic power roles on her newly released EP, Danger.

On the lead track, ‘Aaliyah’, she collaborates alongside fellow bass-influenced vocalist Jessie Ware and label head Geeneus pay tribute to the dearly departed icon by portraying her unconventionally: a sisterly club angel that haunts them to the point of aesthetic agony, ultimately driving them to be greater. ‘Aaliyah, please/ This is green envy/ Why must you taunt me, girl?’ they sing. So, we can get a song as good as this, of course.
