LCD Soundsystem Book To Light Up Miami
Tomorrow night, Miami’s Hotel Victor will transform into an LCD Soundsystem mini-mart for the Art Basel set, and will launch LCD, artist/photographer Ruvan Wijesooriya’s book chronicling seven years spent traveling with the seminal electronic band on the road.
At 216 pages, LCD is a powerful fly-on-the-wall visual biography that underscores the idea that sometimes images speak louder than words. The variety in Wijesooriya’s photography – including candids, live shots, and portraiture – explicitly demonstrates the meteoric global rise of the James Murphy-helmed NYC indie-dance phenomenon. From the humble and sweaty early Aughties nights spent roughing up dingy Brooklyn bars to commanding a cast of thousands at Sweden’s Way Out Festival to, of course, the act’s spectacular dénouement at Madison Square Garden last year, these intimate photos beautifully trace LCD Soundsystem’s rise and departure.
LCD will hit shelves Tuesday, December 11th and can be pre-ordered here. Early copies can be purchased at Hotel Victor’s Art Basel launch event this weekend, which will feature DJ sets by Eric Duncan and LCD’ Soundsystem’s own Nancy Whang.
