Lauren Luke x Refuge – Makeup Tutorial For Domestic Abuse Victims

Popular beauty enthusiast and adviser Lauren Luke collaborates with Refuge, an U.K-based domestic abuse organization, to create a PSA to raise awareness about and stop domestic abuse. The video starts off in the form of a makeup tutorial with Lauren Luke visibly bruised and cut as she teaches other fellow abuse victims how to conceal the wounds and discoloration from the attacks of your abuser — essentially, how to pretend like nothing happened. Slowly progressing to the purpose of the video, feelings of disbelief and discomfort are surely felt as the evidence of such a rampant and prevalent situation are shown right before your eyes as opposed to all too often hidden behind the ignorant idea of ‘out of sight, out of mind’. Ending with a statistic of ’65% of women who suffer domestic abuse keep it hidden’ and a tagline of ‘Don’t cover it up’, the thoughtful, stripped down and straight to the point video sheds a much needed light on an important social issue. One of the best public service announcements I’ve ever seen.
