In their preview for Pre-Fall 2013, Helmut Lang’s Gotham-centric creative directors Nicole and Michael Colovos scaled back from Spring’s colorful experiments in print and volume and focused on what the austere label has always championed: linear monochromatics. Charcoals, ink blues, and strict blacks and whites anchor the razor focused collection, with fiber-optic aqua hues appearing in brief square flashes on a few select boxy shifts. These are clothes designed for making a rainy May day a little more elegant; there’s even a slinky white degrade gown that looks looks beautifully drenched by a dark rain. Meanwhile, the standout moto-inspired black leather blazer features sharp white panels that will look lethal and lithe under a static grey sky.
