Garland Coo x Sibiu

Garland Coo, a dark German fashion brand obsessed with the polarity between fashion and art, has teamed up with newly established label Sibiu to present Garland Coo x Sibiu, a collection exploring the artistry of harsh passion. The almost entirely black line swashes through proportions, navigating between slim cut sheer blouses to monastic cloaks, in an attempt, in the words of the designers, to venerate strong women of the past.
The collection falls in trend with the stylized spectacle of brutality that has been popularized by the brand’s more established European contemporaries (Ann Demeulemeester, Alexandre Plokhov, and Damir Doma), but doesn’t fully deliver in comparison. Looks such as a cut-out crop-top over leather leggings aren’t showing us anything we haven’t seen before, and ultimately seem a bit junior. Garland Coo’s designer Jasmin Isable Eckerle cites the German Black Forest as one of her influences on the collaboration, and while the aesthetic ties are clear, it’s the Rick Owens sense of strength and Thamanya’s alarm in the collection that we’re still looking for.
