Ellen Stagg – Naked Art

One scroll through photographer Ellen Stagg’s pet project staggstreet.com and you’ll be crouched over the screen praying no one’s coming up behind you. But if you feel like you’re doing something naughty, don’t – this isn’t pornography. It’s art. And beautiful art at that.

You probably wouldn’t expect it when you meet the blonde haired, bright-eyed Stagg, but she loves photographing naked women. She’s pretty capable at capturing other things with one of her various lenses (you can find some of that more “commercially palatable” work at her site thestaggparty.com), but if she had to choose? I think it’s pretty obvious.

Why do you shoot?

I have been creating art since I was little, the beginning of time. I discovered photography when I was in high school at 16 years old and never looked back. I love it. I love the light, composition and just being a voyeur.

Equipment?

I shoot with a canon 5D mark II, Holga 120, 35 & Polaroid and use Profoto acute lights & a canon flash on camera

16 plus years

What do you love shooting most?

Naked women (staggstreet.com). I am so grateful to all the amazing women who get naked for me.

Helmut Newton, Bettina Reims, Mario Testino

Worst shoot experience?

Shooting Sara Underwood for Playboy.com, she wasn’t having it from the minute she walked in the door, plus had my photos pulled from the site. She is the only naked lady who made me feel like i shouldn’t have showed up for the shoot. But all the other girls I have shot for Playboy were amazing, like Kristen Pyles!!

Favourite shoot experience?

Meeting Justine Joli 5 years ago, our first shoot. I was so excited to find a model that was willing to push me and my art. She is the best and so gorgeous naked.

The perfect picture?

One that makes you think and moves you emotionally.

What would be your dream shoot?

I have had so many amazing shoots, there are just dream people to shoot. Like Belladonna, Sasha Grey and any hot celeb naked.

What’s next for you?

More gallery shows, more naked ladies and more interesting work projects. In my personal life, I’m going to get a new kitten in the new year which I’m stoked about
