Download of the Day: Chairlift’s ‘Something’ Demos

by Colleen Nika   |

Chairlift’s underrated second album, Something, an early highlight of 2012, pushed the Brooklyn act’s art pop collagist approach further into earworm territory, while still maintaining the delicate strangeness that drew us in four years ago on ‘Bruises’. As frontwoman Caroline Polachek’s lyrics grow ever more perturbed, her vocals take on the gravity of a worried angel driven to the brink. Check out the lyrics of ‘Sidewalk Safari’: ‘All of the bones in your body are in way too few pieces for me / Time to do something about it, if you know what I mean’. The band let us trace their creative process through the album’s demos, which they’ve just put up on Soundcloud for free download and can be streamed below.
