David LaChapelle – Pictures That I Wanted To Say

Legendary photographer David LaChapelle sat down with MADE during his stay in Berlin to discuss photography and finding artistic balance after twenty years capturing some of the best shots for the magazine industry.

After his stint with Interview Magazine, LaChapelle knew he wanted to move away from periodicals, but he  knew his artistic career wasn’t over: “I had more pictures in me that I wanted to say” he says.

LaChapelle says the magazine industry taught him how to communicate with images : “I like pictures that have a clear meaning and communicate directly. Communication is key for me, to touch someone, or move them, like music does.”
