A new blog post by legendary producer Nile Rodgers (founder of seminal future disco act, Chic) reinvigorates speculation there will be new Daft Punk material to hear this year. His collaboration with the French electronic duo has been much anticipated and discussed since he told Faster, Louder a year ago that it was ‘amazing’ and ‘formal’ and featured Rodger’s signature funk guitar. Now, amidst a reflective year-end/new-beginnings posts diary posted this weekend, Rodgers indicates we’ll be able to hear the fruits of their labour sooner than later.
‘The next time I set foot in Japan, my collaboration with Daft Punk would have started to hit people’s eardrums, as well as a number of songs I’m working on over the next few months with a select group of artists, and of course finally, my lost CHIC and solo material. ‘ he writes. ‘No matter how it ends, 2013 Won’t Be Boring!’ On a semi-related note, Rodgers is also working with La Roux on the also long-awaited follow-up to her illustrious 2010 self-titled debut; it should also be out some time this year. Here’s to a strong return to electropop’s shapeshifters in 2013.
